Dallas Morning News: Jean-Jacques Taylor says the Cowboys want Martin Gramatica to win the job at kicker and that no team with playoff aspirations wants to have a rookie kicker. He also has a Q & A session, mostly about the Bill Parcells era in Dallas and why JJT considers it a failure. Clint and I have our TUESDAY column due and this weeks topic is whether Tony Romo should get a new contract with Dallas before the season starts or not. Clint's is done. Mine is not. I'll try to get it up today. But meanwhile, Tim Cowlishaw covered the same subject and summed up his thoughts this way:
"The notion of Romo playing for a contract in 2007 with both sides taking a calculated roll of the dice just might produce the best results on the field for Dallas and off the field for the Cowboys quarterback."
Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Ssshhh! We don't want to wake them.
Dallas cowboys: Josh Ellis continues the series on assistant coaches, with special teams coach Bruce Read.
Others: Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline thinks the Cowboys should wait until midseason to give Romo his contract. They're like monkeys. One monkey does something then they all follow suit. Pat Kirwan of NFL.com predicts that a deal with Romo won't get done until midseason. Mike Freeman of CBS Sportsline tries to rank the top 50 jerks of all time and does a poor job of it. Michael Irvin at 22? Bill Parcells at 50? Mark Schlereth of ESPN says Roy Williams is the most overrated player in the league. Schlereth is pretty much an idiot. He must have heard someone else say it. Schlereth also lists Terrell Owens as one of five NFL players on the hot seat. He's way off base, Owens isn't even among the top five players on the Cowboys team that are on the hotseat. Schlereth must have heard someone say that, too. Last year.
